Mountain Shadows

If you haven’t stayed at Mountain Shadow’s, it’s a must see. The mid-century design is breathtaking and they have hints of history throughout the resort. The best part about it is its amazing views of Camelback Mountain. Leo and I had the chance to do a weekend stay-cation with them a few weeks ago and we had the best time! This was the first time we’ve been on their property and after our stay, we couldn’t wait to go back! I can’t even explain the attention to detail their entire team showed. They get an A++ in hospitality!

One thing that really stood out to us was each day they had someone from their staff stopped by the rooms each night, giving complimentary bottled water, filled up our ice bucket, gave a weather report, and provided a list of events going on at the property! They also had an amazing text service if we needed anything!

We won’t go too deep into the history of Mountain Shadows, but I had to share a snippet of it since we love the mid-century era! Mountain Shadows was originally built in the late 50’s. It was one of the hot places to be in the ‘60s due to its modern luxury, sparkling pool, and golfing available. People from all over would stay here including regulars and celebrities. Rat Pack, Liz Taylor, and Bob Hope to name a few. Another fun note, the Monkees shot an episode of their tv show here! Fast-forward to 2004 when it closed its doors for good. So they thought! In 2015 they began remodeling! It recently reopened in 2017 where they were able to restore the resort’s historic birthplace.

Leo and I could not wait to try out the food at Hearth 61! As soon as we checked in and dropped off our luggage we followed the pleasing aromas since they were calling our names. We heard so many great things about their chef, Charles Wiley. We started out with a cocktail for me and a brew for Leo, and some delicious appetizers. We went with the oysters of the day and some of their amazing mouth-watering bread.

For my main course, I got the short rib agnolotti which included thyme, horseradish crème fraîche, and toasted breadcrumbs. This was seriously the most delicious thing I’ve tasted in a while and is one of their specialties.

Leo tried their pan roasted king salmon with Brussel sprouts, pancetta, and mustard gnocchi. Both dishes were exceptional. We also shared their charred young broccoli with lemon shallot butter and shaved parmesan. We just about went into a food coma after that. Even if you aren’t able to stay at the resort anytime soon, I’d highly recommend checking out Hearth 61.

We ended the evening by the pool and hot tub. It was a great relaxing evening and we decided to head to bed early. No shame there!

You better believe we ordered room service the first morning at Mountain Shadows. We got the BEST nights sleep and couldn’t wait to order breakies. Y'all should know that breakfast food is the way to my heart.

Initially, we were going to eat out on our patio, but with us being in Arizona, it was a little too toasty outside. We were able to grab a few quick photos but quickly made our way inside.

We enjoyed our breakfast in bed watching cartoons. As fun as that was, we don’t recommend eating in bed if you’re a messy eater. haha.

Fun fact about me: I love jumping on beds at hotels. Anyone else a fan of that? I also challenged Leo to a pillow fight! You’re never too old for that, right? ;)

If you decide to stay here, we highly recommend getting the Immerse Guest-room. We loved our cozy room!  Our favorite feature had to be the incredible soaking tub with views of Camelback mountain. You best believe I took advantage of that tub! This room is perfect for endless relaxation.

A few other favorite amenities were:

  • The unique layout with the open bathroom. It had a delightful vanity area for me to get ready at.

  • the patio with pool and mountain views.

  • Most comfortable bed ever

  • Fitness center access

  • Comfy robes and slippers

Sometimes Leo likes to poke fun at me? He makes my life so much more interesting. haha.

Saturday’s are for pool and cabana time!

That afternoon we couldn’t wait to use the pool and head to the shaded cabana we had reserved. We started off with a few beverages and a delicious fruit platter.

I love that the cabana was just steps away from their two pools. That way you had the choice to be in the shade reading a book or watching tv or soaking in the sun, poolside. The cabanas can accommodate up to 10 people so we had a few of our friends join us. We spent most of the day by the pool with our friends which was super relaxing. It is one of my favorite things to do.

If you’d like more info on cabana rentals and pricing, look no further.

I have linked it here for you.

After all of that yummy food, I couldn’t leave the weekend without fitting in a workout class. At their Citizens Club, they have a fitness center and also classes you can sign up for! You had yoga, aerial yoga, pilates, total body, and a sunshine mile class to choose from. I signed up for the aerial yoga class. This is a must to try if you haven’t before!

The property here is just beautiful! There are so many spots to just lounge, get a look at some amazing views, and enjoy the desert vibes. Leo and I aren’t golfers, but they have an amazing golf course if that is your thing. :)

We had such a great time and again, we cannot wait to go back! The property is so beautiful you could get married here! Which by the way, people have! If you’ve been itching to come to Arizona, you NEED to stay here. Thank you for stopping by! Comment below if you have any other questions about our stay!
